Working in a small town…

In a way I am somewhat thankful that I live in a fairly remote area, I get a lot less of the city noises, the air is significantly cleaner and I can see the stars at night, but there are some downsides to this also, for example if I need to go to a shop or if I want to find a coffee shop to hang out in I have to drive for at least 15min, or the worst of all, if I want to network with customers around me, well I have to work at that much harder.
I know I am lucky that I have a decent area to not only live but also work in, but I do see that there are both good and bad sides to working in a small town or remote area but there are defiantly ways to take advantage of this…

1. Find any way to network you can.
We all know networking is crucial to any business. For me networking has been a great way to not only find more clients, but also more business. Take advantage of any opportunity you have to network. This includes: conferences, seminars, meetings, and any other time you find proper to network, remember some of the best opportunities you might find in a small town can be the local library, or some of the city offices.

2. Find any customers in your area.
One of the first things I do when helping other business find more customers is helping them target local businesses (or local customers for that matter).Targeting local customers is a great way to start getting your name out as a business, but as we all know if you treat you customers right, their referrals are a great way to get more business.

3. Take advantage of technology.
Me personally I love the newest technology, I love that I can use my cell phone to connect to anyone in the world, or that I can check my email on my smart phone, Take advantage of the fact that computers are so accessible now a days. Take advantage of email, instant messaging services and social networks, you never know who you might find.
